Oj, Baranjo

Program “Oj Baranjo”
The subtitle of this program is “Year of Baranja Folk Customs”. The program is based on a huge tradition of Croats living in the Baranja area. Unfortunately many of the customs you will see tonight are gone, but some, thankfully, are still “alive”. “Ulice”, “Fašange”, “Kraljice”, “Žetva”, “Kermenc”, proposition and wedding are the customs that you will see tonight through song, music and dance. Many of the customs were written down by eminent ethno-choreologists, ethnomusicologists and collectors of folk heritage, but also by our leader. Stjepan Stepanov, Pajo Kolarić, Julije Njikoš, Duško Topić, Enrih Merdić are collectors of this valuable material. In order for the basic material to be suitable for stage performance, it has been artistically processed. Musical arrangements in this program are signed by: Duško Topić, Tomislav Radičević, Tomislav Seiter and Filip Merdić. Participants in the preparation: Tomislav Radičević, Tomislav Seiter, Ivana Škegro and Enrih Merdić. This time, Pavo Franjin from Baranja’s Petrovo Selo and Anita Delic are responsible for the costumes. We would like to thank “FA Biseri Slavonije”, “HKUD Željezničar”, Janja Horvatić and Pava Franjina for donating the costumes, Dr. Tvrtko Zebec for providing access to the materials of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research.
The program was designed, choreographed and directed by prof. dr. sc. Enrih Merdić.

The first DVD of KUD Tena consists of unrelated video materials of the Society.
The Tena Cultural and Artistic Society was founded on May 10, 1985, and is based on the rich Slavonian folklore tradition. The cultural and artistic program of the ensemble is based on the basic principles of amateur music on stage, while the social program is focused on gathering and educating young people from Đakovo and the surrounding area. The basis of the society’s work is the preservation of not only Slavonian folklore, but also the traditions of other Croatian regions, as well as teaching young people to recognize and accept traditional values in today’s modern world.
